About Hiking Adventures UK

Gary Robson

Sharing my passion for hiking and mountains

For me, my love of the hills and mountains has been with me for as long as I can remember.

Ironically, I live in the York area, one of the flattest parts of Yorkshire!

I’ve been lucky to have been able to summit all the mountains of the Lake District and many more beyond including some spectacular mountains in Europe and Africa.

I am also a keen runner which helps to keep me fit for the adventures.

I want to share my experience, knowledge, and passion for hiking with you.

The call of the mountains and fells is hard to resist

“Because it’s there”.

This is what mountaineer George Mallory is thought to have said, when asked why he wanted to be first to climb Mount Everest over a century ago. Anyone who loves to hill walk, ramble, or tackle the trails will understand what this outstanding mountaineer meant.

With stunning and challenging mountains here in the UK, you can achieve so much with the right support and guidance that I can offer.

Hiking Adventures UK Ethos

The ethos of Hiking Adventures UK is to enable you to hike some of our most spectacular peaks in safety.

As a mountain guide, you can rely upon me to know the terrain, take you to the top and back down again so you can enjoy the views, the scenery, and the challenge, without worrying about the route.

My Climbing CV

Part of Hiking Adventures UK’s ethos is to help you develop your hiking CV.

As well as the Yorkshire 3 Peaks, I’ve also completed the National 3 Peaks (Ben Nevis, Snowdon, Scafell Pike).

Other Lake District hills I’ve successfully summited include Great Gable, Helvellyn, Skiddaw, Blencathra, Catbells, Old Man Of Coniston to name but a few.

I’ve been able to complete the Welsh Firths including Snowdon, Crib Goch, Tryfan, Glyder Fawr, Glyder Fach, Pen Y Ole Wen and more.

Other areas include the North York Moors National Park, the Cairngorms, Brecon Beacons, The Trossachs and Snowdonia.

Overseas adventures include hiking in winter to the top of the 3 highest mountains in Morocco, Toubkal being the highest at 4,167 metres (13,671 feet). I have also hiked to the top of Slovenia’s highest mountain Triglav 2,864 metres (9,396 feet) as well as several others in the Triglav National Park.

Why I Set Up Hiking Adventures UK

I set up Hiking Adventures UK as I want to help people get outdoors and discover the incredible scenery within our National Parks. I have confidence in individuals and love showing them what they can achieve, even more so when they think they can’t. Of course, I am also inspired by the beauty of our own country.

Something I never fail to be moved by is seeing people’s emotions throughout the hike.  These emotions range from struggle and doubt to pure joy and relief at reaching the summit, or when completing the hike we’ve tackled together.

I also have to thank my hiking friends, who’ve been inspired by my photos taken during my own adventures. Their encouragement led me to become a Mountain Leader. Hiking Adventures UK also has a huge positive impact upon my own wellbeing.

The Young Hiker!

I was very fortunate in that I started hiking as a young boy in the Lake District with my Dad and friends of the family. This sparked off an interest that returned to me around 15 years ago when I visited the Peak District at every opportunity. My confidence steadily grew.

I then returned to the Cumbrian Mountains and I’ve completed all 214 ‘Wainwright’ Fells. Some of the Wainwrights I return to time and again they’re so incredibly beautiful.  As time went on, I wanted to tackle bigger mountains. Now I can’t seem to get enough of it.
